The purpose of this article is to detail the Max Days in Transit Rule, a specific RLD Rule type, that targets the restriction of shipping options based on maximum allowable transit times.
A rate response request includes a list of all service types across multiple carriers in a distributed network. Sometimes, specific service types take too long to deliver based on certain order variables, according to business rules. This is where the Max Days in Transit Rule comes in. The Max Days in Transit Rule post-processes the rate response to explicitly exclude services whose transit times exceed the maximum allowed duration (e.g., removing any service that takes more than 4 days) to make better routing decisions in your supply chain. The Max Days in Transit Rule is one rule type within an RLD Template.
Any number of Max Days in Transit Rules can be built within an RLD Template to match business objectives. Each Max Days in Transit Rule includes the following components.

The carrier rate response is modified according to the rules defined within the Max Days in Transit Rule matched within the RLD Template. The transformation functionality available to be included within the RLD template is as follows.
This configuration dictates the maximum allowable transit days for a carrier service to be permitted. Once the match criteria are met, the rate request response is transformed to filter out any carrier services whose stated transit time exceeds the explicitly defined maximum days threshold, ensuring only services that meet the speed requirement pass through before the final rates are presented or the label is manifested.
Usual use cases for Max Days in Transit Rules within an RLD Template are numerous. Some common use cases include the following:
Exclude service types where the transit time exceeds 2 days for priority or premium-tier orders.
Ensure perishable goods or temperature-controlled items are only shipped using services that guarantee a transit time of 48 hours or less.
Filter out slower economy delivery options when a specific customer SLA (Service Level Agreement) dictates delivery within a set number of days.
