Routing Logic Directives (RLD) built into EPISHIP control shipments through the rate and label manifest processes of the supply chain.
The purpose of this article is to detail the Disabled Services Rule, a specific RLD Rule type, that targets the restriction and removal of specific carrier service types from the available shipping options.
Overview
A rate response request includes a list of all service types across multiple carriers in a distributed network. Sometimes, specific service types are not the target for use in shipment label creation based on certain order variables, according to business rules. This is where the Disabled Services Rule comes in. The Disabled Services Rule post-processes the rate response to explicitly exclude specific services (e.g., removing Next Day Air while leaving Ground intact) to make better routing decisions in your supply chain. The Disabled Services Rule is one rule type within an RLD Template.
Disabled Services Rule Components
Any number of Disabled Services Rules can be built within an RLD Template to match business objectives. Each Disabled Services Rule includes the following components.

Transformation
The carrier rate response is modified according to the transformation rules defined within the Efferent Rule matched within the RLD Template. Each transformation rule available to be included within the RLD template is as follows.
Disabled Service Selection
This configuration dictates the exact carrier services that are prohibited from handling the shipment. Each service enabled within the Shipper Account can be specified individually. Once the match criteria are met, the rate request response is transformed to filter out the explicitly designated services, while allowing all other unselected services and carriers to pass through.
Disabled Services Rule Use Cases
Usual use cases for Disabled Services Rules within an RLD Template are numerous. Some common use cases include the following:
Disable expedited or air services (e.g., Next Day Air, 2nd Day Air) when the shipment contains hazardous materials (Hazmat) that legally require ground transport.
Disable slow economy services (e.g., Ground, Parcel Select) when line items require temperature control or are highly perishable.
Disable expensive premium services when the declared value or total cart cost is below a specific profit threshold.
