Routing Logic Directives (RLD) built into EPISHIP control shipments through the rate and label manifest processes of the supply chain.
The purpose of this article is to detail the EDD Gate Rule, a specific RLD Rule type, that targets the restriction of shipping options based on Estimated Delivery Days (EDD) criteria.
Overview
A rate response request includes a list of all service types across multiple carriers in a distributed network. Sometimes, specific service types do not meet the required delivery timeline based on certain order variables, according to business rules. This is where the EDD Gate Rule comes in. The EDD Gate Rule post-processes the rate response to explicitly exclude services that fall outside of the acceptable estimated delivery window (e.g., removing services that take longer than 3 days) to make better routing decisions in your supply chain. The EDD Gate Rule is one rule type within an RLD Template.
EDD Gate Rule Components
Any number of EDD Gate Rules can be built within an RLD Template to match business objectives. Each EDD Gate Rule includes the following components.
Match conditions
Match conditions of criteria operators include the following types: All (AND), Any (OR), None (Not).

The match criteria types listed above are used within individual rules or can be combined into a single rule to target specific conditions that include several match criteria.
Transformation
The carrier rate response is modified according to the rules defined within the EDD Gate Rule matched within the RLD Template. The transformation functionality available to be included within the RLD template is as follows.
EDD Gate Threshold Selection
This configuration dictates the maximum allowable Estimated Delivery Days for a service to be permitted. Once the match criteria are met, the rate request response is transformed to filter out any carrier services whose estimated delivery timeframe exceeds the explicitly defined EDD threshold, ensuring only services that meet the delivery promise pass through.
EDD Gate Rule Use Cases
Usual use cases for EDD Gate Rules within an RLD Template are numerous. Some common use cases include the following:
Exclude service types where the Estimated Delivery Days exceeds 2 days for priority or expedited orders.
Ensure perishable goods are only shipped using services that guarantee delivery within a strict 24 to 48-hour window.
Filter out slower economy delivery options during peak holiday seasons when delivery by a specific date is promised to the customer.
