Best Practices for Personal Information
Accurate personal and contact data is the first step to a smooth, delay-free delivery experience. Whether you input sender details or recipient data, adherence to these best practices helps prevent lost packages, unexpected carrier fees, and customs holds.
1. Verify Address Accuracy
Always double-check the street address, city, and postal code before final submission of your shipment.
Include Unit Numbers: Do not forget to include apartment, suite, or floor numbers. Omitted unit numbers cause many “Return to Sender” errors.
Watch for Typos: A single wrong digit in a zip code can route a package to the wrong state. Take an extra second to verify the numbers.
2. Provide Contact Information
The inclusion of a valid phone number and email address for both the sender and the recipient is highly recommended.
For Delivery Drivers: Carriers often use phone numbers to resolve immediate delivery issues, such as a required gate code or a hard-to-find drop-off location.
For Customs: For international parcels, customs officials frequently need to contact the recipient to collect duties or clear the package. An absent or incorrect phone number can result in an abandoned or returned package at your expense.
3. Format International Addresses
Every country has its own standard for address formats. For international deliveries, ensure the recipient’s address follows local postal guidelines. Additionally, ensure all names and addresses use English characters so the carrier’s system can generate and print the label correctly.
