Overview

Route Logic Directives (RLD) establish the rules and actions used to filter and direct traffic in real time. RLDs enable automated decisions for workflows, such as software tasks and API requests, to optimize throughput and distribution accuracy.

The Modern Standard for Scaled Logistics

Routing Logic Directives (RLD) represent the modern approach to shipping for scaled enterprises. An RLD is a collection of software-defined controls that govern how packages route through any supported carrier within a network.

Logistics managers and Directors of Transportation maintain full control over the RLD rules built into EPISHIP.

This allows for real-time adjustments based on network performance and “surgical” low-cost routing initiatives. The ability to design, automate, and optimize complex shipping processes is the core of EPISHIP’s Routing Logic Directives.

Key features

  • Multi-Carrier Management: Shippers—including manufacturers, retailers, and 3PL providers—can manage rules to meet strict carrier requirements, such as volume/revenue commitments and piece or package limits. RLDs also ensure low-cost routing by avoiding surcharges and meeting carrier-specific revenue targets.

  • Multipiece & Multi-Leg Management: EPISHIP supports shipments consisting of several packages, as well as complex movements that require multiple carriers to fulfill a single goods-movement procedure.

  • Multi-Account Management: Manage multiple account numbers for any given carrier. Support for various lines of business and international orders eliminates operational “slop” by routing each shipment through the correct account. Shippers can configure accounts specific to certain vendors or customers; if a rate exceeds an available option elsewhere, the manifest automatically targets the lowest-cost option defined by the RLD without disrupting the rest of the network.

  • Instant Routing Updates: Changes are made in real-time, allowing for on-the-fly adjustments due to network outages, price fluctuations, or volume cut-offs.

  • Rate Shopping: Compare rates across different carriers instantly to find the most cost-effective or fastest option for every shipment.

  • High-Volume Processing: At a default of 100,000 requests per second, our software provides blazing speed for the largest shippers during peak seasons.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Easily access required documents, including commercial invoices and country-of-origin papers. The system is designed for HIPAA and Hazmat compliance, and can manage electronic clearance, return labels, and business-specific print templates across multiple printers.

  • Security Forward: EPISHIP is trusted by large enterprises, small businesses, and government entities to meet modern shipping challenges.

Getting Started

Existing customers should begin by reviewing our support documentation to understand the types of rules that can be crafted within EPISHIP.

1. Build an RLD Template

  1. Log in as an Admin or Manager.

  2. In the left sidebar, navigate to RLD Templates. Go there →

  3. Create a new template, define a name, and click Create.

2. Build an RLD Rule

  1. Click Add Rule and select a type (e.g., Revenue Tier Rule).

Note: Afferent Rules act as pre-processors, while Efferent Rules act as post-processors.

  2. Define your Match Criteria.

  3. Specify the Criterion (e.g., Reference Field).

  4. Set the Operator and Value specific to that criterion.

  5. Add a Transformation if required, then click Save Changes.

3. Manage multiple rules

It is common practice to build multiple RLD Rules. Rules are executed from top to bottom within a template. To change priority, simply move rules up or down in the list to ensure the intended logic triggers first.

4. Test the build

Click Create a Shipment in the left sidebar to run a test. Depending on your rules, a Rate Request may show the expected outcome immediately, while other rule types may require a Create Label request to fully execute the test.
